Hello! And welcome to the Graves’ Family Home website!
Shortly before Thanksgiving Day of 2003, Tiffani came home from her daily ride on the VRE (Virginia Railway Express) with a copy of the VRE newspaper. Inside was an advertisement for a brand new development going up in Martinsburg, West Virginia - which is about 90 miles from Manassas, Virginia, our home at the time.
Tiff’s mom and stepdad were visiting us for the Thanksgiving Holiday and we decided to take a ride up to visit the place and see how it looked in person. I believe I can safely say that ALL of us were taken in by the beautiful mountain view, and the very nice homes going up in the new neighborhood.
We went wandering through the single model home that was open and just fell in love with it. We asked the salesman, and of course, the model was just WAY out of our reach in price. However, as we began to talk with him we found out that the builder is a “custom” builder, and would be able to build most plans that we brought to them from outside. He gave us a website that we could look through to see if we liked any of their plans. We searched through MANY plans before we successfully chose 3 or 4 that we really liked. We took them back to the builder and got the verbal “ok” on them, then Tiffani and I began to really narrow the field down with weeks of discussions and flipping back and forth between plans. We finally agreed on the “Maryland” plan, and Tel Builders said “Yes, we can do that within your budget.”
Next came the choice of property to put the house on. The really “choice” lots (up close to the mountainside) were all taken, so we opted for a lot nearer the main road that was slightly larger than 1 acre, and we laid our downpayment on the table.
When we came back to “solidify” everything, we were told that one of the lots up close to the mountain had become available if we were interested. I said “We’ll take it!”
So this website will be the pictorial story of the building of our dream home, for our friends and family who are interested to see the progress, and as a record to the kids and grandkids who are yet to be born, for whom this home is intended to be an inheritance one day.
